What a great article on investigating visual issues for children with Sensory Processing Disorders by our colleague, Dr. Lynn Hellerstein, that you can read here.
It is no wonder that among the professionals most allied with developmental optometrists are occupational therapists, particularly those with a background in sensory integration therapy. Ever consider some of the parallels or analogs?
1) Sensory Sensitivity ~ Visual Aliasing/Instability/Confusion
2) Sensory Overload ~ Photophobia/Asthenopia/Diplopia
3) Sensory Diet ~ Visual Hygiene
… and the list goes on. None of this should be too surprising. After all, vision is one of our most important sensory channels, n’est-ce pas?
Thanks so much for the kind words Len. You’re the best!! Lynn
