More Evidence on Vision & Reading

Thanks to our Canadian colleague Dr. Charles Boulet for pointing out a recent research paper published in Graefes Archives of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.  The article is:  Association Between Reading Speed, Cycloplegic Refractive Error, and Oculomotor Function in Reading Disabled Children Versus Controls, and confirms an association between uncorrected refractive error (particularly hyperopia), impaired vergence facility and reduced reading speed, as determined objectively with an infra-red eye tracking system.

The study’s co-author, Dr. Patrick Quaid has a nice YouTube Video on vision as related to reading that is suitable for parents and interested professionals, in which he cites this study at around the 4:00 minute mark.
