“I Didn’t Expect Vision Therapy To Make My Daughter Smart”

Filed under: Parent/Patient Advocacy,Vision and Learning — Leonard J. Press, O.D., FAAO, FCOVD @ 9:12 pm

At the end of Quinn’s office-based optometric vision therapy program on August 1,  her mother indicated that  she couldn’t really make a final determination about the extent to which Quinn had improved.  She told us that she’d rather wait until September to update us on how this school year was going.  Well today her mom came in to the office and wrote a Success Story that put a big smile on my face:

1. What changes have you noticed since beginning vision therapy?

Quinn’s school day was exhausting in 2nd grade, now in third grade she is not tired at all when she comes home.  Homework was a complete chore, and now she willingly does it.  She had no interest in reading and now she picks up a book and will read for 15 minutes as a time – which is HUGE!

2. Have all your goals been met?

I didn’t expect vision therapy to make my daughter smart – she already is.  It gave her the tools to use her eyes efficiently.  Reading is no longer such a chore and difficult.  I am hopeful for continued success for her at school.

3. Would you recommend this service for others?

There are alot of physicians, especially opthamologists [sic], who are quick to knock vision therapy.  Apparently it’s because they are uneducated on the benefits.  I am truly glad that Dr. Press and his staff are so dedicated to their work and helping so many children.  I think the field is growing by leaps and bounds through the Internet and word of mouth.

And on that note, I’ll leave you with a video that our colleague, Dr. Robert Lederman shared with me earlier today.
